MRRI GIS Seeks to Acquire US-Made Drone Platform

Over the past few months the US drone industry has undergone major changes, the most notable of which is the prohibition of the use & procurement of Chinese drone technologies by federal government entities & non-federal organizations working with or for the federal government. As a result, MRRI has been conducting research into acquiring a new NDAA-compliant drone platform that could also improve upon our current research capabilities. In pursuit of this goal, MRRI’s drone team has recently organized multiple drone demos in order to gather hands-on insights that will be integral to us choosing the right platform for our purposes.
On May 28th, MRRI’s drone team took a trip down to Warren County Community College’s campus in Washington, NJ where we saw the CamFlite Aurora in action with a LiDAR payload.
On June 3rd, Inspired Flight Technologies came to the Meadowlands to show off their IF800 “Tomcat” with a Sentera 6X Multispectral payload at our very own Harrier Meadow.
Both of these demos have given our team invaluable experience that will no doubt play a major role in deciding which platform will be best suited for improving upon our current research methodologies while remaining entirely NDAA-compliant. MRRI would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone involved in making these demos happen.
