Water Quality Sharing with WQX

The 2024 water quality data collected in the Meadowlands Lower Hackensack Estuary have been reviewed through QA/QC and shared with the public via the national Water Quality Exchange (WQX) platform. The Meadowlands Research & Restoration Institute (MRRI) has been contributing water quality data within the District to WQX since 2016.
The Meadowlands water quality monitoring program was established to provide a comprehensive assessment of the overall water quality in the estuary, particularly given the legacy contamination from historical landfill activities within the District. These monitoring efforts help identify large-scale and long-term trends in water quality and detect any acute or emerging water quality issues.
The data shared through WQX are publicly accessible via the EPA Water Quality Portal (WQP) at https://www.epa.gov/waterdata/water-quality-data. The WQP serves as the nation’s largest repository for water quality monitoring data, hosting over 380 million records contributed by more than 900 federal, state, tribal, and other partner organizations using the WQX data standard.
